Elmbridge Borough Council is faced with another application for flats on the site of Waterloo House, Mayfield Road in Walton on Thames
Waterloo House, Petroleum Geo-Services' (PGS) former home, has been earmarked by its owners to be demolished to make way for two blocks of flats, totalling 65 one and two bed properties.
The proposed development, which has been lodged with Elmbridge Borough Council, is in fact smaller than what has previously been suggested for the site. Previously in the owners had gone to the council with plans for a staggering 96 flats and then went back a second with a scheme for 78.
The first blue print was withdrawn and the second was kicked out by a council planning committee which sighted its scale, mass and bulk for rejecting the proposals.
"This application seeks to address these concerns," RDJW Architects has said in the latest application to Elmbridge. The new plan is to build two blocks of flats, the first being home to 32 two apartments while the second will be a combination of four one bed properties and 39 two bedroom flats.
As always with any large scale development, parking has been a consistent issue with a development of Waterloo House and the latest plans have earmarked the development to have 70 spaces. However, just five will be made available for any visitors.
The proposals hold some good news for any local people looking to get a foot on the Walton on Thames property ladder as the developer has already said 40 per cent of the flats would be set a side as 'affordable'.
"The proposed scheme releases the latent potential of an existing building which, in its current form, has passed its useful life," RDJW Architects has added in concluding its submission to the council.
"The enhancement of the site through the removal of the existing building and the creation of new dwellings will undoubtedly enhance and complement the area's aesthetic."
Anyone wanting to comment on the proposal needs to have contacted Elmbridge Borough Council by Monday (August 15).
