South and South East In Bloom 2011 has awarded a Silver Gilt for Hersham Memorial Gardens, a formal Edwardian style memorial garden enclosed by stylish iron railings and offering a unique setting for the Hopton Stone Memorial.

The gardens are a tribute to those who fell during WWI and WWII, with the stone located in one corner and showcased by stunning seasonal bedding. Residents can enjoy the peaceful oasis of tranquillity of this lovely garden all year round.

Apart from Elmbridge Borough Council's submission, a Silver Gilt was awarded to Hersham In Bloom, an independent Regional Entry into the 'In Bloom' Awards. This high distinction is reward to the on-going commitment and hard work of the Hersham community to keep the town in bloom for the most part of the year to stunning effect for the pleasure and enjoyment of residents and visitors.

Keen gardeners and green-fingered enthusiasts have surpassed themselves again this year and this thoroughly deserved award demonstrates the appreciation and recognition by the judges who took in the glorious displays of Hersham with great appreciation.

Cllr Jan Fuller,Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Cultural Services, said: "Many congratulations to everyone involved in such wonderful projects that create an uplifting and inviting environment for local residents and bring communities closer together. It is a great accolade."
