As of the tomorrow organisations in Walton-on-Thames are invited to apply for the second round of Elmbridge Borough Council's 'Jubilee Fund,' the aim of which is to create a lasting local legacy for the borough in the year that the Queen celebrates her Diamond Jubilee and the county hosts the Olympics. Just over £32,000 of funding is available to Elmbridge's voluntary and community sector for community projects that will enhance the environment residents live in. In this round, it is recommended that the bids submitted are no greater than £5,000.
The one off funding aims to inspire local communities to support and generate innovative projects that improve their surroundings. The main benefit of this funding is seen as enhancing the sustainability of the organisation so that it can improve it's service and be better equipped for the future.
Councillor Christine Elmer, Portfolio Holder for Social Affairs said: "Following the first funding round, which provided some very good applications, we are hoping that those organisations who did not apply before, will come forward with some exciting proposals.
"This funding aims to make a real difference to organisations, for example one successful organisation will be purchasing a new computer so they can provide a more efficient and improved service to their clients. Another successful application involved more than one part of the local community with Scouts creating a local garden for their use but also the local school and playgroup to enjoy."
Organisations have until 12 noon on September 7, to apply for funding. Applications will then be placed on the Elmbridge website where members of the public will be able to make comments on the proposed projects, after which comments will be considered by the Panel.
