Parking around Walton on Thames to be cheaper!

Parking in Walton on Thames is becoming a confusing issue. Last week, we were told the on street parking charges would be introduced in many areas of the town in the autumn. This was by Surrey County Council.

Parking is set to be cheaper in one part of Walton on Thames while new measures should make more short stay spaces available in the town centre
However, Elmbridge Borough Council now has a small crumb of comfort for motorists as parking in some of its car parks is set to get slightly cheaper from Wednesday (June 6).
In the village car parks across the borough the all day fee is going down from £4 to £2. An annual season ticket reduces from £405 to £202, with the quarterly going from £112 to £60.
The Halfway car park opposite Walton Fire Station will change from a town to a village car park and the charges will reduce accordingly, for example the first hour fee will go from 50p to 20p.
Drewitts Court car park above Wilkinson's in Walton town centre will actively discourage longer stays with parking over 4 hours and "all day" costing £8 instead of £5. The ground floor will have a 4-hour maximum stay for pay and display only. The upper floor will be available for normal pay and display parking and will be used to accommodate season ticket and all day parkers.
Cllr Dorothy Mitchell, the Cabinet Member with Portfolio for Highways and Transport at Elmbridge Borough Council, said: "We have taken the opportunity to fine tune some of our car parking charges, helping local businesses, traders and residents over these difficult economic times."

I think this is a good thing. Car park fees are so expensive so any reduction is good news for me. Shame they couldn't keep the on street parking bays free as well but this is better than nothing I guess.

ReportSeriously, they need to make up their minds! On street charging being introduced and then car park charges going down - it doesn't make sense to me. It seems so disjointed and makes me wonder if Elmbridge Borough Council and Surrey County Council actually talk to each other at all. A bit of joined up working wouldn't go amiss! Saying that, it's good to hear of costs going down! It just seems a bit confusing that's all.
