Research carried out across the county show more cyclists are hurt in June (14 per cent) than during any other month of the year. Wednesday is the most dangerous day of the week for riders when 17 per cent of injuries occur. And most cyclists are hurt in the morning (19 per cent) between 7am and 9am than at any other time of day.
The findings based on accidents numbers during four years are part of Surrey County Council's and Surrey Police's Drive SMART campaign which aims to reduce anti-social behaviour and increase road safety.
The campaign is urging motorist and cyclists to take better care of each other, particularly as the popularity of cycling in Surrey is set to increase following the news Walton on Thames will host sections of the Olympic road race and time trial events during the 2012 Games.
The figures also revealed cyclists are most likely to be hurt:
* within 1km of their homes (39 per cent)
* at junctions (71 per cent)
* in dry, light conditions (65 per cent)
* on urban roads with a 30mph speed limit (66 per cent)
Head of Surrey's Roads Policing Unit, Inspector Chris Colley, said: "Cycling should be fun but it should also be safe.
"A few safety rules such as being visible to other road users and pedestrians, wearing a helmet and using cycle lanes and advanced stop areas for cycles at traffic lights can help cyclists stay out of trouble on the roads, but they should also be aware of the Highway Code. Drivers need to also be aware of other road users and drive considerately."
