I was in Kingston today and a number of shops had prepared against the riots spreading – Foxtons Estate Agent across from the station and Wilkinsons had boarded their windows up. Concerning when you think how close people thought the riots would come to Walton on Thames. Has anyone else been directly affected by the events in recent days?

When the riots kicked off in Tottenham it felt like a fairly long way away from us in Surrey - but the Croydon riots felt a bit too close. The scenes on the TV of the riots were shocking and I felt so sorry for the poor, innocent people caught up in such outrageous behaviour. The damage and destruction to businesses was awful, so I'm not surprised that Kingston took precautions. It did feel at the time that the trouble was spilling out of London and into the suburbs. Let's just hope we never see scenes like those seen in London here in Surrey - or anywhere else in the country for that matter.
