New Year's Resolutions?
We're a month on from the festive period but I wonder how many Walton-on-Thames residents have stuck to their new year's resolutions?
Cutting down alcohol was one of mine. It is interesting to hear in Elmbridge approximately 24 per cent of the adult population is drinking above the guidelines for lower risk drinking.
The chief medical officer's guidelines on lower-risk drinking recommend men do not drink more than 3-4 units daily and women no more than 2-3 units daily. (One pint of lager is equal to 3 units and a standard size glass of wine (175ml) is equal to 2.3 units).
Last month the Elmbridge Community Partnership reminded residents that one or two small changes could make a big difference in alcohol consumption and ultimately on your health, this could include having two days off alcohol, or by simply reducing the size of your glass.
All residents across the borough can pick up drink diary from the Elmbridge Council reception in Esher.
My first thought was to stop going out so much to save money and that way I would not be tempted to drink a bottle of red with my friend. But when you have a packed social diary then that's quite difficult. I need to get some will power!
So what were your resolutions and how is it going? Any tips to reduce your alcohol intake? Or perhaps you have a fun resolution?
