A development of 22 affordable, eco-friendly homes in Walton on Thames have gone on the market.

Wardur Court was built by Rosemary Simmons Memorial Housing Association (RSMHA) with the support of Elmbridge Borough Council and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA). The development has 16 rented homes and six apartments available on a shared-ownership, part-buy part-rent, basis.

The development was built on the site of a former sheltered housing scheme for older people which was in need of redevelopment and owned by the housing association. It forms part of a programme of 150 new affordable homes being developed in borough between April 2010 and March 2011.

Darren Hurst who moved into Wardur Court in December said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have moved in and we are really impressed with the finished look of our home. It’s in an ideal location, peaceful and quiet with lovely communal gardens for all to share. We felt RSMHA really looked after us through the whole purchase process, right from initial viewing, to allowing us to have some input on interior finishes right up until completion.”

Wendy Pridmore, RSMHA’s Chief Executive, added: “As a housing association based in Esher, it gives us particular pleasure to be able to help local people to buy or rent an affordable home within Elmbridge, the most expensive local authority to buy in Surrey. We’re really pleased with the quality of the homes and hope that the residents are too.”
