The revamp of Walton on Thames’ High Street has been completed.

The new look layout with redesigned pavements has been unveiled along with a commemorative plaque.

The 'Soul to the Street' project as the council has called it, has improvements that include wider footways for pedestrians near The Heart entrance with flowering trees and benches, new street lighting, co-ordinated paving and street furniture, which included new cycle racks, bollards and planters, new signs with maps and tourist information and gateway feature banners at major entrance points to give a sense of arrival and identity.

The Leader of Elmbridge Borough Council, Cllr John O'Reilly, said: "I am extremely pleased with the Soul to the Street improvements and that the project was delivered on time and within budget. It is a good practical example of the Council's commitment to support both the economy and environment for local businesses and residents.”

Forgot to add, this can only be a good thing for people living in Walton - I know we are in a bit of a housing slump but this regeneration will put value on local properties in the long run.

So pleased they have done all this work in Walton. I never used to visit Walton for shopping as I thought it was run down, with poor shops and no where nice to eat. But it's now really lovely. Agree that the other end of the High Street still needs a bit of work but in general they have done a great job. Credit where it's due.

Good. I hoped it would be the other side, which needed a bit of a makeover. I love Walton on Thames. I used to work part time as a Saturday girl in Beales - now the new Debenhams - so it holds a lot of fun memories. I'm so glad they are improving it as it has always been the sort of 'poor relation' of Weybridge hasn't it.

It's the entrance by McD's - I was down there last night and it does look a lot smarter. The only problem is the other end of the High Street nearest the Wellington pub now looks a bit tired!!

This is good news for Walton. Which entrance to the Heart are we talking about here? Do you mean the pedestrianised bit or the main High Street entrance opposite McDonalds? Because if any part of the town needed a makeover it's the old High Street, which hasn't really changed in decades and looks very dated.
